How to read this document

Sections move from purpose → concepts → calculation process → worked examples → edge cases. Formula boxes use plain mathematical notation for clarity; they are conceptual summaries, not API contracts.

  • Point lists call out operator-visible behaviour.
  • Callouts mark warnings, limitations, or important qualifications.
  • Worked examples use round numbers so you can reproduce the arithmetic by hand.

Purpose

Income records describe household inflows used in period reporting. Savings is a derived difference, not a bank account balance.

  • Capture dated income with source and currency context
  • Control whether an income entry contributes to a selected month
  • Compare enabled income with household expenses

Income records

  • Use the actual receipt date.
  • Preserve original currency.
  • Name sources consistently.
  • Avoid duplicate payroll, transfer, or import entries.
  • Treat internal transfers according to household policy.

Monthly enablement

Income can be enabled or disabled for a month where supported. Disabled income is excluded from that month's savings calculation without implying the real-world receipt was reversed.

Review the selected month

Enablement is period context. Check it before comparing two months.

Savings calculation

Selected-month savings

Σ enabled income − Σ household expenses

A negative result indicates expenses exceeded included income in the selected scope. It is not automatically debt, cash balance, or net worth.

Monthly result

  1. Enabled income is 12,000.
  2. Expenses are 9,500.
  3. Subtract expenses from enabled income.

Displayed savings is 2,500 for that reporting scope.

Currency and comparison

Comparable totals use household reporting values while records retain original currency. Rates and rounding may differ from bank statements.

Review and reconciliation

  • Confirm dates and enabled state.
  • Check transfers and duplicates.
  • Reconcile income to source statements.
  • Review conversion.
  • Use goals or net worth for longer-term balances.

Privacy, advice limits, and what we do not publish

AccountHouse is a household tracking and organisation tool. It is not a bank, payment processor, tax advisor, or investment advisor. Forecasts, health scores, balances, and alerts are informational.

  • Household data is scoped to your household; other families cannot see your ledger.
  • Public documentation explains product behaviour and calculation concepts, not proprietary internals.
  • Exact scoring weights, anomaly thresholds, cryptography parameters beyond high-level algorithms, and operational detection rules are reserved.
  • Savings summaries are informational and do not establish tax treatment, affordability, or investable cash.

Intellectual property boundary

This document describes what AccountHouse calculates and which inputs matter. It does not disclose source algorithms, secret constants, or implementation details sufficient to reconstruct proprietary systems.
